Proms at St Jude's - Chilingirian String Quartet
at St. Jude's Church .
7.45pm The renowned Chilingirian Quartet, with pianist Andrew Brownell,
perform Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F minor, one of the masterpieces of
chamber music. They are then joined by mezzo-soprano Sarah Pring in
the world première of the song cycle "Letters from Lony" by Ronald Corp,
commissioned by Proms at St Jude’s.
"Letters from Lony" is a voice from the Holocaust. Lony Rabl-Fraenkel sent
the letters from Nazi-occupied Amsterdam to her new-born grandson
in England before she perished in Auschwitz without ever seeing him.
The Chilingirian Quartet, founded in 1971, is one of the world’s most
celebrated and widely travelled ensembles and has built up an extensive
and critically acclaimed discography of classical and romantic works.
Composer and conductor Ronald Corp has composed many works,
including cantatas, a symphony, piano concertos and more than 100 songs.
Sarah Pring, a favourite at Glyndebourne, where she began her career,
has sung at the Royal Opera House and with companies including
English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera.
Andrew Brownell has won prizes at major European competitions and
has been soloist with orchestras such as the Hallé, Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic and the Hermitage State. FREE tickets for under-25s, with thanks to Cavatina. Supported by the Rothenberg Family Charitable Trust. More about the Festival and book tickets online at www.promsatstjudes.org.uk
