The Hampstead Garden Suburb Horticultural Society

Flower Shows

The Hampstead Garden Suburb Horticultural Society holds shows twice a year, in June and September.

Show dates for 2016:

  • Saturday 11 June
  • Saturday 10 September

The 281st show will be held on Saturday 11 June 2016, from 3.00-5.30pm at the Free Church Hall, Northway, London NW11. (Map here). Entry Night Tuesday 7 June at Fellowship House, Willifield Way, from 7.00-8.00pm. A Children's Fancy Dress Parade on the theme of ‘Royalty’ for Juniors under 17 and an Adults' Fancy Hats Competition on the same theme for anyone over 17 will be judged at 3.30pm by the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor David Longstaff, who will also open the show at 3pm.

The 282nd show will be held on Saturday 10 September 2016, from 3.00-5.30pm at The Free Church Hall, Northway, London NW11 (Map here). Entry Night Tuesday 6 September at Fellowship House, Willifield Way, London NW11 from 7.00-8.00pm. Grimsdyke Brass will play throughout the afternoon.

Regulations - together with some handy hints - can also be found in the handbook. If you are new to showing, the Show Coordinator will be happy to explain anything you need to know beforehand, and on the day of the show there are always committee members around in the hall during the entry period, who will be pleased to help. In 2016 some completely new classes have been added for ‘First Timers’. Only members who have NEVER COMPETED BEFORE in any HGS Horticultural Society show will be eligible to enter these classes. First Timers may of course enter any of the other classes in the shows.

Are you a keen photographer? Photography classes in the shows are open to all ages (adults must be members of the Society). In June the two subjects are: Bridges and Flower Petals, and in September the two classes are: Looking Up and Summer 2016.

Or perhaps you enjoy baking. Traditionally, one cake at each show is made to a recipe published in the members' handbook. In June the recipe is for a simple and delicious Honey Cake and in September for a Ginger Cake.

There are also classes for Juniors aged from under five to 12+ at both shows.

Entry fee for all shows: 20p per class, children free. Entry forms may be sent in advance to:
