Proms at St Jude's - Opera Night with Nevill Holt - Tosca
at St. Jude's Church .
7.45pm One of Giacomo Puccini's greatest operas,Tosca is a roller-coaster story of love, lust, murder and political intrigue.
With its dramatic storyline and Puccini’s richly romantic score, it is one
of the world’s best loved operas.
This concert performance will be sung in Italian by Nevill Holt Opera,
with its orchestra and chorus. The company’s previous productions at
Proms in the last three years have all sold out.
Under artistic director Nicholas Chalmers, who conducts tonight,
Nevill Holt continues to reinforce its national reputation. Nicholas is
conductor of Northern Ireland Opera and artistic director of Second
Movement Opera Company.

Tosca is played by Belfast-born soprano Giselle Allen, acknowledged
as a singing actress of the first order, who has appeared at opera
houses throughout the world.

Spanish tenor Carlos Fidalgo plays Cavaradossi. Born in León, he
studied in Europe before moving to London to study at the National
Opera Studio. He has sung with UK companies including English
National Opera and Scottish Opera, and across Europe.
Welsh baritone Paul Carey Jones sings Scarpia. He trained at the
Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. Joint winner
of the 2013 Wagner Society Singing Competition, he sang with
Scottish Opera and Northern Ireland Opera before making his Royal
Opera debut last year. 'His unwaveringly steady, oaky baritone anchored the production' Opera Magazine.
